Clinical Associate Professor & PMHNP Program Coordinator, University of San Diego,
Psychiatry Director, Vericare

Dr. Terry is dually certified as an FNP and PMHNP and his career has focused on the integration of both the medical and the behavioral aspects of care. He began his career as an EMT, later becoming a paramedic and Mobile Intensive Care Nurse. He obtained his FNP in ’79, his PMHNP in ’89, and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2010.

Mike’s career has taken him from the streets of Los Angeles to the California wine country; from Death Valley with the National Health Service Corps to Alaska with the Indian Health Service. In addition,he has worked in private and corporate practices, taught in private and public universities, and served as director of a statewide telemedicine program. He is past Chair of the APRN Council of the APNA, and past president of the California chapter. Four years ago, Mike left his faculty position at UCSF to come to San Diego and currently directs the PMHNP Program at the University of San Diego.

In 2014, Mike took over as the Director of Psychiatry for Vericare, a behavioral health company headquartered in San Diego. Vericare provides psychiatry and psychology services to several inpatient geropsych programs and in over 1,000 skilled nursing facilities in eight states. The majority of Vericare's psychiatric providers are NPs and CNSs, and Mike is committed to the quality of the services of these APRNs through on-going training, decision-support, and the supportive partnership of physician consultants.
