Responding to Mass Violence

By APNA Bloggers posted 03-26-2018 04:04 PM

After the recent repeated incidents of mass violence in our communities, APNA is pursuing a course of action in response. Here are the beginning steps of that course of action:

  • APNA signed-on to this letter, sent to Congress by the American Academy of Nursing on February 27, which calls for a bipartisan National Commission on Mass Shootings within the next 30 days.
  • The Board of Directors has charged APNA staff to work with the councils to create a community outreach tool related to dispelling myths around mental health and violence, understanding violence prevention, and promoting psychiatric-mental health nurses as trusted providers of care. This should take at least 60 days and more information is coming soon.
  • Resources, including the Resources for Responding to Traumatic Events and the Violence Prevention Toolkit, are available to support the needs of your community and raise the visibility of the critical role you play in violence prevention.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
