Each month, the Research Council Steering Committee features an APNA member. This month, we are featuring Ms. Danielle Walker!

Danielle Walker, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC is a doctoral student at Boston College who just completed her first year. Danielle's research interest is on the impact of community violence and gang violence in Black/African American emerging adults. Her interest in this topic came from her personal experience with community/gang violence and the experiences of her patients at Boston Medical Center in Boston, MA. Most of the research on community violence is focused on children and adolescents. However, many of these children and adolescents continue to be victims and/or witnesses to community/gang violence well into adulthood. Emerging adults (ages 18-29) are becoming more independent and are making important life decisions that will influence their futures. This stage is a crucial time for the establishment of healthy behaviors to decrease the potential implications of chronic community/gang violence. Danielle is just beginning her research career. She hopes to ultimately improve the care provided to Black/African American emerging adults.
