1:1 suicide watch

I am responding to question of how close 1:1 staff must be on 1:1 watch. At the facility I work our policy states staff must be within 8 feet of pt at all times, and pt must be visible at all times. I have heard of situations where pt asked for provacy while going to the BR, and staff let this happen. Not ok- pt is on 1:1 for saftey- not convienece.

My recollection of 1:1 is arm's length. This is because if the patient makes a sudden move, AND THEY DO, you are right there.
