Treating Schizophrenia, with long acting injectables

 When your first line treatment, of long acting injectable therapy is unavailable...What is the next go to treatment for the FMHAPN, when treating schizophrenia?
Evidence based practice reveals that schizophrenia is successfully managed with slow release long acting injectables.  These injectibles decrease negative, positive symptom, and increase compliance.  According to the FDA Abilify is the only drug that is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia.  There are several
 long-acting injectable antipsychotics available in the United States, however there are times when the below medications are unavailable or experiencing a shortage.  When your first choice is not available what is your go to medication?
 
  • Fluphenazine decanoate (Prolixin)
  • Haloperidol decanoate (Haldol)
  • Risperidone microspheres (Risperdal Consta)
  • Paliperidone palmitate (Invega)
  • Olanzapine pamoate (olanzapine-LAI)
  • Clozapine (Clozaril)
  • Aripiporazol Maintena (Abilify)
