Clothes on inpatient units

By Elizabeth Shubin posted 06-07-2013 08:26 PM

On our IPU we provide scrubs until the patient has reached Level 2 status during which they can wear their own clothes. This provides a sense of accomplishment as well as providing goals for the new patients Complianace with the program determines Levels. Level 1 is a new patient. These patients are also eligible for off unit walks and outdoor activities.

In our facility patients are allowed to wear their own clothing, it is seen as a pt right. Refer to the link I have provided. Hope this helps

I have to laugh as well. Our residents feel more empowered when they step up a level and get to wear their own clothes. We have a washer and dryer (1 set) on our unit and they do their own clothes with supervision.

I work for a small hospital who is in debt and trying to cut costs. One of the things they announced is that they will no longer be offering laundry service to the patients. This is due to the assumption that most patients stay for less than a week. I just have to laugh. Soon, we will be handing out scrubs and gowns just so the patients have clean clothes to wear!!
