Textbook for Psych APRNs

By Kathleen Wheeler posted 06-05-2010 07:09 AM

Dear Kathleen, Eris Perese at the U. of Buffalo is currently writing such a book.  However, check out the book I wrote called Psychotherapy for the Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse for a book on how to do psychotherapy.  The book also has a chapter on Integrated vs. split treatment which addresses how to integrate medication management into therapy.  All contributors to the book are expert psych APRNs in practice and also has an overall holistic model for practice based on neuroscience.  I did not include specifics about psychopharm as I felt that this type of information is best obtained through keeping up with current literature on medications.  Medications are one adjunct to treatment but should not be the sole modality (that is the medical model not the holistic model).

I just bought this book at a confrence - and quite happy I have it in my library. There is no other textbook like it for an APN in psychiatry! Susan

Kate,
We use your book in our psychiatric NP program at the UAB School of Nursing and it is quite helpful. I highly recommend it for graduate students in PMH nursing.
