Recovery and Adherence

Hello Everyone! It is great to be writing to you, my psych nursing colleagues and friends. I have loved reading the conversations in the All Purpose Discussion Forum and it’s so nice to put names and faces together from the posts. This summer, I will be presenting on Saturday, June 18th at the CPI conference. The title of my keynote is Recovery and Adherence: Illness Cognition from Anosognosia to Adjustment. What else would you like to learn about this topic? Here’s a set of questions to get you thinking…

1. Have you ever wondered why certain patients seem ‘stuck’ in a level of recovery that you know could be higher and you don’t know how to help?

2. How about the patient who absolutely doesn’t think there is anything wrong and they don’t understand why everyone wants them to take medications all the time?

3. How do we engage the patient who has been admitted 14 times for medication non-adherence and doesn’t seem to ‘get it’?

Let’s get this conversation started! Feel free to leave your comments and questions by clicking on “Add a Comment” below.
