Thanks for sending this. I tried inpatient work for about a year. I had no problem with Medicare and Tricare. Unfortunately I had quite a few problems with commercial insurance.
I found it was not practical to continue given the problems with reimbursement. To do pro bono work for a patient is one thing, but to do pro bono work for an insurance company is another matter.
Since i already have an outpatient practice, I learned that compensation rates for the "facility" are less than for the "non-facility". I have to keep the office going when I am not there.
Nonetheless I felt that the inpatient experience certainly helped hone my skills. I loved the contact with other nurses as well. I have enormous respect for our inpatient nurse colleagues.
We are all on some evolutionary journey here. Things keep getting better for APRN's. We need to keep pushing that envelope.
