New Grads and Entry to Psych Nursing

I couldn't agree more. Another example of nursing needing to get out of its own way and think elastically. What Psych probably needs most, among other things, is "new" nurses, no matter what age they are, who can bring a freshness and energy to the workplace. And yes, you are soooooo right about the rustiness of M/S skills in working psych nurses. What a gift it would be to have a nurse, fresh out of school who knows exactly where to place the leads before the RRT arrives, while some of us "experienced" psych nurses are fumbling around. And better yet, those RRT calls may not even happen if we had more nurses who had crisp physical assessment skills and recognized that psych patients have MEDICAL issues, not just psych issues - especially Gero-psych patients.
