How does your organization determine the amount of time a staff person stays with a 1:1 patient?

1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 12 hours?  Is there rotation?

How is it determined?  Do you have a process?

Our unit has 8 and 12 hours nurses. Typically the nurse assigned to the patient will sit for the full shift. If the nurse requests a “regular” assignment after 4 or 8 hours though, the charge nurse is typically very accommodating. BUT for overnights they take turns sitting in 1 hour increments.

There is no specific time frame, they can sit until the patient is no longer exhibiting the behaviors that required the 1:1 and will contract for safety

Edit: Do you mean how long of a shift the sitter actually takes? They can sit for their entire shift, usually 12 hours.
