This blending of the two roles is stupid. Another example of how nursing befuddles the issue meaning that there is no difference between the two. If this is so, then why have this designation. Althought there may be some similarity between the two, the scope of practice is totally different. Ditto for the educational preparation, or it should be. No wonder the public is confused when a nurse introduces her/himself as, "I am
your CNS/NP assigned to your care." Ridiculous. No matter how crazy the patient might be, he/she will wonder am I crazy or are you? The same can be said about this nonsense of the hot button NP/DNP issue being pushed. No wonder nursing doesn't have creditability with the public. So much confusion.
