Bio

I have 40+ years of teaching and academic administration experience in BSN, MSN and DNS/DNP programs in public and private universities. I have served as Chair, Associate Dean, and Director of Nursing since 1986, becoming a tenured professor in1995. My teaching includes both classroom and online experience, as well as continuing education workshops. My passion is curriculum development and program evaluation. I have led the development of a new MSN program, a master’s option for RNs without a bachelor’s degree, a community-based BSN program (funded by Kellogg), and a new Clinical Nurse Leader program. I coordinated and wrote NLN and CCNE Self-Studies for several programs, resulting in their full accreditation. I received the American Association of Psychiatric Nursing Excellence in Education Award.

My scholarship includes the publication of more than 25 chapters and articles on nursing education, teaching, leadership, management, and coping with chronic illness. I co-edited and authored "Management in Nursing: A Vital Link in the Health Care System". I edited and authored "Advanced Practice Nursing in Psychiatric and Mental Health Care", an AJN award-winning text. I have served on three journal editorial boards and peer-reviewed countless articles for publication.

I am most proud of my election as the second President of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and currently serve as Chair of the Nomination Committee for 2018. I also served as the first Vice President of the American Psychiatric Nursing Foundation. I was elected as a Fellow to the American Academy of Nursing and currently serve on the Psychiatric/Mental Health and Substance Abuse Expert Panel. I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau International. I really enjoy attending the Annual APNA Conferences and the APNA New England Conference.
