I had the pleasure of attending the Annual Legislative Breakfast at UNC Chapel Hill's Friday Center and glad to see legislators from both sides addressing laws for mental health in NC. It would be good if next year some of us from NC plan to be present and maybe have a booth as well. More Psychiatric Beds, prisoners with mental illness, children/youth mental health resources, suicide prevention and many more issues were discussed. I will create a summary for you.
We also need to link with NAMI in our state and attend some of their great meetings, events and conferences. May 2nd they host NAMI Walks, we could form a team and it will be at the Dorothea Dix Hospital grounds. Dorothea Dix led the way for many Psychiatric Hospitals to be developed through out America and a petition is on to create a memorial to honor her at the hospital's site. The link is:
