Hi,
I am Dr. Karen Adams DNP, RN, NE-BC, PMH-BC. I am the Nurse Manager of a very busy inpatient child and adolescent unit at Atrium Health WF Brenner Children's Hospital. I have been a nurse 30+ years, always focusing on Mental Health, Adult Education, and Regulatory specialties. I have worked within the inpatient setting, PRTF for adolescent sex offenders, Geriatric Psychiatry, Adult Substance use residential treatment programming, home health and within the DHSR realm as a LTC surveyor.
I am also very proactive with nursing schools in North Carolina and work with them to allow their students to perform their clinicals on our inpatient unit to further the education and reality of Mental Health challenges and stigma that still exists. Professional memberships are also important to me; I am currently a member of ANA, NCNA, APNA, NAMI, and MHA, to name a few. Internally at my employer, I am an active member of professional governance and committee representing psychiatry as well as our workplace violence committee.
