Bio

Dr. Barbara E. Lakatos has over thirty years of professional experience as an advanced practice nurse and is board certified in psychiatric and mental health nursing. She is focused on the translation of care at the bedside, incorporating psychiatric and mental health needs of patients, to improve the safety and quality of patient care. She has held dual academic teaching and practice appointments. In addition to her advanced practice and educator roles, she is skilled in inter professional practice development and organizational change.

In her current role as Program Director for the Psychiatric Nursing Resource Service at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, she provides direct consultation to patients and families admitted for medical care who develop concurrent psychological issues such as delirium, alcohol, suicide, anxiety and depression. Using a trauma informed care approach, she provides coaching and education to inter-professional staff to promote wellness, resiliency and self care. She is a member of numerous professional organizations including Sigma Theta Tau International and Phi Kappa Phi.

Dr. Lakatos has authored peer-reviewed articles and reviewed for professional journals. Her professional service includes serving on the Board of Commissioners for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the item review panel for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCLEX), The Board of Directors of Nurses United for Responsible Service (NURS) and the Massachusetts Perinatal Association, and the Massachusetts Hospital Association Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Taskforce, and the American Nurses Association Processional Issues Panel on Workplace Violence and Incivility Advisory Committee.
