Joe Karb is an accomplished nursing leader with more than 25 years of progressive experience in clinical care, healthcare operations, and executive leadership. He is currently the Director of Nursing at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he oversees nursing services across 56 pediatric inpatient beds and residential care programs. In this role, Joe has led transformative initiatives to enhance care quality, eliminate the use of involuntary overtime, and establish a Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health.
Joe’s career spans a diverse range of leadership roles in both U.S. and Canadian healthcare systems. Prior to his current position, he served as Vice President of Restorative Care at Hôtel Dieu Grace Healthcare in Windsor, Ontario, where he provided strategic oversight for Rehabilitation Services, Complex Medical Care, Pharmacy, Professional Practice, Infection Prevention and Control, and Diagnostic Imaging. His achievements include implementing LEAN methodologies to redesign staffing models, leading multimillion-dollar budgets, and fostering high-performing teams during periods of significant organizational change.
With a strong foundation in mental health nursing, Joe has also directed Mental Health & Addictions programs, managed inpatient psychiatric services, and optimized patient flow and outcomes in high-acuity settings such as Intensive Care and Orthopedic Surgery. Throughout his career, he has consistently delivered results in quality improvement, budget optimization, workforce development, and patient-centered care.
Joe holds a Master of Nursing with a focus on Nursing Leadership from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He is board certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) and maintains active nursing licenses in Michigan, Texas, and Ontario.
