Bio

Summer Andrews Marshall is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and is a Board Certified Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioner. She holds both a registered nurse (RN) and an APRN license in the state of Louisiana. She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
A native of New Orleans perusing her first bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences at Southeastern Louisiana State University. She then traveled to New York to study nursing. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accelerated program in 2007 upon which she returned home. She began her nursing career in the emergency department at Louisiana State University Interim Hospital, a level 1 trauma center. After which she worked at East Jefferson General Hospital in Same Day Surgery, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and the Operating Room. She returned to school again earning her Masters in Nursing in 2012 from LSUHealth in New Orleans and her Doctorate in Clinical Nursing in 2018.
Her experience as an APRN includes outpatient Dermatology serving a variety of populations in the southeast Louisiana region, wound care in Long Term Acute Care and rehabilitation hospitals as well as multiple Skilled Nursing Facilities and Home Health, and is currently caring for the underserved populations at the Primary Care Medical Dental clinic in New Orleans. She recently completed her Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for pediatrics (SANE-P) training and is currently working towards certification.
Dr. Marshall is an active member of American Nurses Association (ANA) since 2004, American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners (LANP) since 2009, Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society of Nursing since 2011, and International Association of Forensic Nursing (IAFN) since 2018. Her research interest include Forensic Psychology, Emotional Intelligence, Child Abuse & Neglect, Forensic Nursing, Workplace Violence, PTSD, Adolescent Populations, Leadership, Therapeutic Relationships, Diversity, Teamwork & Communication, Health Literacy, Military Psychology and Cultural Competency. Dr. Marshall currently serves as an Professor of Clinical Nursing at Herzing University NO in the BSN program.
She excels at advocacy and leadership not only for the community in which she lives but also for humanity as a whole. As an advocate for the prevention of child abuse and neglect, she has volunteered as a mentor for the pediatric and adolescent populations since she was 19 years old. Her belief of “interconnection” drives her passion for educating and empowering individuals for better health, better community, and for a better world. Dr. Marshall was selected for the Great 100 Nurses award in 2017 and winner of the DAISY Faculty award in 2018. Dr. Marshall supports her local SPCA and currently resides in Jefferson Parish with her daughter, two dogs and three cats.
