Bio

After a twenty year time span out of the nursing profession, in 2014, I entered a Return to Nursing Program. Thanks to a professional, knowledagble preceptor, I was able to brush up on old skills as well as learn many new ones (including the computer charting that was not part of the job twenty years ago).  I was then hired into a full time position at the hospital I performed my clinical at on the Progressive Care Unit.  While there, I noticed the overwheliming need for mental health services, that were not often available for a long period of time for patients requiring inpatient and/or outpatient care.  This initated my interest in Psych/Mental Health.  My interest intensified shortly after with the sudden death of my 19 year old son from Cardiomyopathy in 2016.  This extremely difficult time in the life of my family and the mental health services we utilized, cemented my desire to enter this speciality of the nursing profession.  I am currenty enrolled full-time in Psych/Mental Health NP program at the University of Texas-Arlington.
